Let’s kickoff our DIY gifts series with some great gifts for the ladies in your life; be it your mom, sister, friend, cousin… Most of these are really cost effective (especially if you make lots of them for different women, utilizing all your supplies), and easy for any level of crafter.
DIY chalkboard candles
Though this is not a tutorial, but actual candles for sale at West Elm, these would be so simple to make. Pick up some cheap glass candleholders at your local craft store (don’t forget those coupons), the local dollar store, or even Ikea. Then grab a can of chalkboard spraypaint and go to it. Simple, cheap, adorable.
DIY vintage cocktail napkins
If you’re handy with a sewing machine, the hardest part about this making this craft is finding the vintage sheet. Plan a saturday to visit a local flea market or some thrift stores and I’m sure you’ll come upon one eventually. I love the one-of-kind beauty of these and they’re definitely a gift anyone would treasure for years to come. Even if you aren’t too handy with a sewing machine, these are as simple as sewing straight lines around a rectangle, and Design Sponge gives you a step-by-step tutorial.
DIY tile coasters
Aren’t these coasters gorgeous? It doesn’t take many supplies, and from what I hear, these tiles are pretty cheap at your local hardware store. With all the fabulous scrapbook papers available these days, imagine all the cute coasters you could make!
DIY travel sewing kit
Even ladies who aren’t handy with a sewing machine are occasionally in need of a kit to fix a button or hole. This sewing kit is great to have around the house, or to shove in your suitcase for those “just in case” moments when traveling. The tutorial and pattern for this is free on Sew 4 Home. The materials would be fairly cheap, since you can usually find felt sheets for 4/$1 on sale. If you’re not a big fan of cats, you can leave that design off the front…
DIY cinnamon stick candles
I want some of these for myself! Think of how yummy they must smell… You can purchase cheap candles at the dollar store, Ikea or Target, and twine and cinnamon sticks at a local craft store. Glue the sticks to the candle with a little hot glue, tie with twine, and you’re done!
